I was waiting for the train to Los Angeles from the OLT Amtrak stop with a couple hours to spare, so decided to cross the street and check out this area I’d long heard about. Old Town is a quaint section of San Diego that is dubbed as the birthplace of California; a preservation district that serves as an architecturally experiential history lesson and popular tourist stop.
Figured I should get some sustenance to start off. Fiesta de Reyes looked inviting enough. Excellent fajitas: check. Margarita: I’m taking the train, so it seems to be the “classic” thing to do. Yes, please.
After being fed and refreshed, a wander thru this historical state park area that takes you back in time. These traditional wood frame buildings give the ambience of a time gone by.
Back then, if you tried to rob this stagecoach . . .
Got caught by the law . . .
And sentenced by the judge . . .
This is the jail cell where you’d be locked up. Yikes.
Touring an old adobe was much more relaxing.
This passage leads to a peaceful courtyard.
So, perhaps this isn’t exactly a post talking about where I went for coffee, but this entryway has such character, I couldn’t resist.
Easy to tackle in a few hours, Old Town San Diego is a delightful afternoon stroll.
